Outliers Pound Physicality in 5-2 Win
PARK CITY, UT — The Park City Outliers (4-1-0-0) hammered revenge 5-2 against the Rock Springs Miners (3-1-0-0) on Friday night at the Black Rock Mountain Event Center after falling on Thursday. In a series filled with chucked fists, centerman Alex Small tossed enough punches to win a fistfight, but his teammates grouped together for harder-hitting goals.
Five different scorers marked the back of the net for Park City. The first of them tagged the fourth-consecutive game with a goal for rookie Hank Hughes. The second signaled the first in America for defenseman Mads Egge-Edner.
The Norwegian-born first-year slugged in a slap shot without realizing that the deflected goal still belonged to him, slamming off a Miners’ defenseman’s skate. He said, “I thought it was [Chris] Lundie’s goal first, but came up to me and said it was mine.”
“I fell over when I saw it,” he continued. “I’ll take any goal I can get.”
Egge-Edner blocked more than a couple shots over the first two games of the week, as well. He said, “You do everything for the team even though it might hurt you.”
In the second period, goals from Lundie, captain Erick Bachtle, and center Max Young (on the powerplay) heaved the Outliers into a hefty lead they never relinquished.
Nine meetings remain between Park City and Rock Springs. The second of the 11 in total on the year marks the first loss for the Miners.
The Outliers head out for an in-state battle on Saturday with an 8:00 p.m. MDT puck drop against the Vernal Oilers. Park City heads back to the Black Rock Mountain Event Center to host the Casper Warbirds on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7:05 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets online at www.pcoutliers.com/tickets.
