First Familiar Foe Finds First Loss

ROCK SPRINGS, WY — Firing off 62 total shots, the Park City Outliers (3-1-0-0) tasted defeat for the first time in a road 7-1 loss against the Rock Springs Miners (3-0-0-0). The first of 11 meetings between the two squads saw 117 total shots with Rock Springs trying 55.

Miners goalie Micah Adams registered a staggering 61 saves, however the Outliers poured on the intensity. Head coach Richard Bohan called the game a good lesson to a learning squad. He said, “We have a relatively young team. Lots of guys from AAA high school hockey, so I told them that this would be our first real test against a Tier II team, and they saw what this level actually is today.”

Park City had not trailed at any point during its first two games, and it had not ended a period behind its opponent before this loss.

One of the quirks of the Rock Springs Family Recreation Center, the rink’s neutral zone measures about 15 feet shorter than the standard. The Outliers struggled to create space in the restricting confines.

Bohan made no excuses, capping “We can play on a rink that’s 800 feet or seven feet wide, but if you’re losing 90% of your puck battles, it doesn’t really matter at the end of the day.”

A bright spot on the score sheet, forward Chris Lundie roofed a powerplay goal underneath the crossbar for the Outliers only tally.

These teams rematch on Friday with a 7:05 p.m. start time back at the Black Rock Mountain Event Center. Fans can purchase tickets online at www.pcoutliers.com/tickets.
